Primorska - Primorje - Adria-Küstenregion

Primorska is located on the Adriatic coast and represents a wine-growing region with considerable ageing potential, some of which is yet to be discovered beyond the national borders. The region is situated on the iron-rich Karst Plateau which, on the western side, borders the Italian region of Friuli. In this respect, the climatic conditions are very similar to those of its Italian neighbour. The climate consists of a charming interplay of warm, Mediterranean influences on the one hand, and cold air currents from the nearby Alpine massif on the other. Ideal for white wines grape varieties, both national and international varieties are planted which are similar to those found in nearby Friuli. The same applies to the red grapevines, although locations must be chosen with care due to the 'bora', the cold drying wine which blows in from the continent, and relatively high rainfall. With significant demand from within Slovenia, the best wines from Primorska are more than worthy of their international price tag.
