Greek cuisine is one of the best in the world - a celebration of simple but excellent ingredients that come together to create irresistible dishes such as tzatziki, souvlaki and tarama. But Greek cuisine has much more to offer than its classics. The newly opened "San Èna" in Mitte, directly on the banks of the Spree, is dedicated to these lesser-known treasures - a place where tradition and modernity meet and the diversity of Greek cuisine shines in a new light. It's best to come in large groups, as this is the best way to enjoy the food on offer - a table full of mezze, freshly baked bread and steaming dishes from the stone oven. You should definitely try the tirokafteri, a spicy cream made from sheep's cheese, refined with roasted peppers and hot chili oil. It goes perfectly with homemade pita or the wonderfully fluffy garlic bread rolls, which perfectly absorb the salty cheese. The halloumi wrapped in kadayif dough with lightly caramelized figs is a real eye-catcher - even if it lacks a little acidity for the final touch. But the real highlight, as befits a Greek taverna, comes from the grill: tender Cypriot souvla grilled over an open fire, served with smoky yogurt, red onions and a hint of lemon. If you're still craving dessert after this feast, you can choose between a deconstructed cheesecake or profiteroles with mascarpone and warm chocolate - both worth a sin. The attentive service team will be happy to recommend one of the in-house cocktails or one of the finely selected Greek wines from the menu.
