Tasting Notes
The Chapoutier family only produces around 500 cases a year of their white Hermitage, which is made from the Marsanne grape variety and not from Viognier, as is often falsely reported. Already shows the typical ripe color. Complex on the nose, chamomile extract, raisins, very ripe material, baked apple. Enormously powerful on the palate, with hints of quince, a very independent style that always initially appears a little rustic, a burly farmer with a brocade vest, one might think. Decant long enough and it reveals a completely different side: fine elderberry syrup, baby pineapple, some dark malt, strawberry jam and liquorice over a very complex minerality.
