Tasting Notes
Deep but not opaque ruby with incipient glints of garnet. On the nose, the ripe plum fruit comes with an earthy edge and aromatic notions of Chinese five spice. More air adds a hint of liquorice. The palate is juicy and presents wonderfully mellow plum: as compote and baked, gently spiced, again with that five spice dimension lending warmth and resonance. The tannins are beautifully knit, smooth, mellowing, the fortified strength still stands out a little, but this is like a fruity distillation of earth, an essence, still with an echoing hint of liquorice. Lovely.
