The white wine »Geheimrat J« Rheingau Riesling trocken, vintage 1985 from the winery Weingüter Wegeler – Gutshaus Rheingau has been rated in 2024 by Ulrich Sautter with 96 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Riesling from the region Rheingau in Germany.
Light gold with reddish reflections. A complex, refined aroma, even somewhat reductive in its composition, with an aroma of broth, but at the same time there are also apple and oxidative notes. Walnut, liquorice and oat crumble. The palate starts smoothly and very gently, then builds up drive with fine texture and lively acidity, maintains the tension for a very long time, and yet always remains highly sophisticated with spicy nuances (fennel!). Very long.
