The white wine »Reserve« Chardonnay, vintage 2021 from the winery Weingut Escher has been rated in 2023 by Ulrich Sautter with 93 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Chardonnay from the region Württemberg in Germany.
A strong woody note with hints of vanilla and caramel dominating the aroma. The palate is much more sinewy than the aroma would lead one to expect, a vibrant acidity and dense phenolics give the wine an almost lean feel, extract and length are very good.
More about the tastingCarried and also multilayered aroma with ripe yellow fruit, apricot, pear, fine smoke, tangerine zest, chamomile and some caraway seed. The powerful structure is penetrated and enlivened by finely chiseled, taut acidity, good substance, voluminous, ripe phenolics, neat use of wood and good length. Chardonnay with ambition.
