Dry Extract Interview: Michael Moosbrugger of Schloss Gobelsburg, Kamptal, Austria

In our Dry Extract mini-interview feature we ask top professionals in the world of wine, food and travel to answer 13 deceptively simple questions in a quick-fire fashion.

Michael Moosbrugger took over Schloss Gobelsburg, one of the oldest wineries in Austria, in 1996 after growing up in a family involved in the hotel business in Lech. He has introduced numerous innovations, for example his invention of the ‘Dynamic cellar concept’ for which he developed the ‘Cask on wheels’.

Michael’s special interest lies in identifying genuine old vines, the foundation of a winery that produces authentic wines. He has studied traditional winemaking techniques and the history of winemaking which he applies to selected varieties resulting in the "Tradition" wines. Michael Moosbrugger has won numerous awards and last year his estate celebrated its 850th year of winemaking.
