Epicurus sets a new rhythm in Copenhagen
The Danish capital’s latest cultural hotspot pairs world-class jazz with carefully curated cocktails, wines, and elevated casual dining. Led by pianist Niels Lan Doky, it creates an intimate experience where music, flavor, and design come together in perfect harmony.
Hidden beneath the streets of Copenhagen lies Epicurus, an ambitious new space where live jazz and well-curated dining and cocktails are woven into an exciting experience. More than a restaurant and more than a music venue, Epicurus brings together three worlds that share the same values: creativity, rhythm, and attention to detail.
The musical direction is in the hands of pianist Niels Lan Doky, one of Denmark’s most celebrated jazz musicians. Having performed at venues like Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall and alongside icons like Pat Metheny and Michael Brecker, Doky brings both international stature and deep local roots. Knighted by HM Queen Margrethe II for his contributions to music, he curates Epicurus’ artistic programme and often takes to the stage himself, performing on a new Bösendorfer concert grand.
The underground venue was designed by Gram Fratesi, who gave it flawless acoustics, atmospheric lighting and plush seating. A painting by Miles Davis, the only one on public display in Denmark, sets the tone as guests enter, a symbol of the project's ambition.
Food and drink provide a harmonious counterpart to the music: A highlight is the wine or cocktail flight curated by Rasmus Shepherd-Lomborg (Ruby) and Michael Hajiyianni (formerly of Alchemist). In the restaurant, head chef Oliver Bergholt serves a concise, seasonal menu that features the likes of Arctic char with shiso, hake with cabbage and apple, and grilled beef with heart salad and pepper sauce. The cooking is fresh, precise and flavorful – the perfect prelude to a night of live jazz.
Epicurus is backed by an equally visionary team: Lars Seier Christensen, an investor in Geranium and Alchemist; and Mads Bøttger of Dragsholm Castle. Together with Doky, they have created a cultural landmark in the making, a place where gastronomy and jazz grant Copenhagen a new, sophisticated rhythm.
