An icon of 1980s bar culture has found its way back to the mainstream.

The origins of the espresso martini lie in London during the go-go 1980s: Back in 1983, a bartender called Dick Bradsell was mixing up a future icon in a small bar in Soho. It was no coincidence, but a moment of inspiration. A then-unknown model walked in and ordered something to "wake her up and start the party at the same time". Bradsell grabbed a fresh cup of espresso that was still steaming, mixed it with vodka and coffee liqueur and – presto! –  the Espresso Martini was born, then still known as a"Vodka Espresso".

Global Sensation

What began as a small insider tip in a London bar quickly became the trendiest cocktail in the hippest venues around the world. In the 1980s, cocktails were all the rage and coffee was experiencing a hype that included everything from espresso to cappuccino. The Espresso Martini captured the zeitgeist perfectly: strong, sweet and potent.

As the drink became increasingly popular, it needed a catchy name to match the hype. And so, it eventually became the "Espresso Martini" – a name that perfectly combines the elegance of martini with the energy of an espresso.

Enduring Popularity

Fast forward to today, and the Espresso Martini is everywhere. Whether in a fancy bar in New York or a hip café in Berlin – this drink is always a safe bet. It's the perfect way to start the night or recover after a hearty meal.

The best thing about it? The Espresso Martini is super versatile. Sure, the classic with vodka, coffee liqueur and espresso is hard to beat, but there are countless variations. Some bartenders make it with rum or tequila, others experiment with unusual garnishes or special coffee liqueurs.

And the icing on the cake? The three coffee beans used as a traditional garnish. They are rumored to represent health, prosperity and happiness – everything you need for a perfect evening.

Why is the Espresso Martini so popular among the young and hip? It's simple: it combines two things that are ever-popular, caffeine and alcohol. What's more, it's not only delicious, but is also a statement: Anyone who orders an Espresso Martini shows that they have style and know how to have a good time.

Whether at a relaxed brunch with friends, as a pick-me-up at the next party or simply to round off the evening in style - the Espresso Martini is a jack-of-all-trades. It's not just a drink, but a way of life. A little bit retro, a little bit glamorous and with charm to spare.

The Espresso Martini could be the perfect choice for your next evening: Sipping this iconic cocktail means tasting a heritage that has charmed bargoers for over 40 years. Cheers!
