Jackson Family Wines has expanded into the US state of Washington, buying a 61-acre vineyard site in Walla Walla Valley.
Jackson Family Wines, the family-owned wine group whose 40-plus wineries include Cardinale, Kendall-Jackson and Vérité, shared the news of the purchase on social media.
"We're thrilled to share the purchase of our first vineyard site in the state of Washington. We look forward to being a part of the Walla Walla Valley community & continuing to reaffirm its reputation as a world-class wine region," it said in a tweet.
The price of the 61-acre site, which is part of an existing 117-acre property located in Mill Creek in the eastern region of Walla Walla Valley, was not revealed.
Christopher Jackson described Walla Walla Valley as an "exceptional region in North America" for growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, saying this particular site possesses "ideal conditions in terms of soils, elevation and climate", according to the North Bay Business Journal.
The family plans to develop a Washington-based operation over the next several years, he said. Founded in 1983 with a focus on artisanal wines, Jackson Family Wines’ portfolio includes Kendall-Jackson, La Crema, Freemark Abbey, Murphy-Goode, Stonestreet, Matanzas Creek and Cambria as well as luxury wineries such as Cardinale, Lokoya and Vérité.
The Sonoma-based company's wineries span California, Oregon, France and Italy in the northern hemisphere and Australia, Chile and South Africa in the southern hemisphere.
