Michelin Guide reveals new restaurant awards in UK and Ireland

The new restaurant selection includes Cycene in London, which has been awarded one star.

The 2023 restaurant selection of the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland was revealed on March 27 at an event at Silverstone in Northamptonshire. This year, three new restaurants have been awarded two stars and 20 new restaurants one star; four restaurants have received a green star.

The three new two-star restaurants are the reopened The Ledbury, Alex Dilling at Hotel Café Royal, and dede in Ireland, with the guide recommending 25 two-star restaurants in the UK and Ireland. “Great Britain & Ireland continues to impress with the sheer variety of its Michelin Stars,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides. “In every region of Great Britain and Ireland, you can now find hugely talented chefs calling out to gourmets with their exquisite and accomplished cuisine.”

In total, the new Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2023 recommends 1,143 restaurants, of which 206 have one or more stars; 29 have a green star. A total of 116 restaurants are highlighted with a Bib Gourmand, with Cumbria boasting the greatest number of new stars (3). Comparing the cities, London leads the way with four new one-star restaurants and two new two-star venues. In the capital, Cycene in Shoreditch received a star (read Falstaff´s interview with chef Theo Clench here), as did Takuya Watanabe´s Taku, as well as Restaurant St. Barts, noted for its elegant cuisine.

Devon has two new restaurants with stars: Gidleigh Park and Àclèaf in Plymouth. One of the smallest restaurants to receive a star this year is Store in Norfolk, with just five tables available. In Lancashire, chef Tim Allen achieves a star for his first solo restaurant sō–lō. Edinburgh now has two more stars to offer: Timberyard and Heron.

The green stars of the guide highlight restaurants for their sustainable practices. For 2023, there are four new recipients of this category, bringing the total number to 29: Apricity in London, Crocadon in St Mellion (read our interview with chef Dan Cox here), CULTURE in Falmouth, and Osip in Bruton.
