The 2025 Nordic Sommelier Championship saw the region’s top wine professionals converge on Stockholm for a day of skill, focus, and finesse. In the final round, Norway’s Nikolai Haram Svorte claimed Best Sommelier of the Nordics 2025.

In a room filled with shining glassware, steady hands, and quiet concentration, the Nordic Sommelier Championship 2025 reached its climax in Stockholm. The air carried both tension and anticipation as the region’s most accomplished wine professionals competed for one of the most coveted titles in Nordic hospitality.

Nikolai Haram Svorte of Norway emerged victorious, earning the title Best Sommelier of the Nordics 2025. The competition, held at Sergel Hub, brought together the leading sommeliers of the region for a rigorous day of theory, blind tasting, and service trials.

Svorte, who serves as Sales and Product Manager at the Oslo-based wine importer Remuage by Moestue, impressed the jury with his precision, deep knowledge, and grace under pressure. After several years as a finalist, he nabbed the top spot — a testament to persistence and refined skill.

Sweden delivered a strong performance, claiming both remaining podium places. Albert Wendesten, Head Sommelier at Frantzén, placed second, while John Sterner, Head Sommelier at The Winery Hotel, finished third.

Organised by the Nordic Sommelier Association (NSA), the annual championship celebrates the artistry, discipline, and sensory mastery that define modern sommellerie. Bringing together contenders from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland, it stands as a showcase for the region’s growing influence in the global wine scene — where knowledge meets hospitality, and precision meets passion.

For Svorte, the victory marks both a personal milestone and a moment of pride for Norway’s vibrant wine community — one that continues to shape the future of Nordic gastronomy, glass by glass.
