The Savoy Grill reopens with new look after renovations

After being closed for just shy of three months, the major renovation has transformed the iconic restaurant into a glamourous 1920s-inspired dining space.

The Savoy Grill, helmed by world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay and frequented by A-list stars, finally reopened on April 24. after three months of renovation work, having been closed since February. The restaurant’s new look has been designed by award-winning interiors group Afroditi, who have used plush red velvet seating, glittering chandeliers and mirrors to evoke a Gatsby-eque theme throughout the restaurant. The most major new additions to The Savoy Grill are a new pewter bar area and a ‘Wine Experience Room’, while the Chef’s Table experience is set to continue, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the food and beverages on offer.

The Wine Experience room is a particularly exciting new highlight, led by The Savoy’s Head of Wine and Sommeliers. Inside, guests can sample some of the most unique, rare and expensive bottles of wine in the world. The rooms seats just eight guests, and sommeliers will discuss preferences with visitors in advance to curate a bespoke wine menu, paired with freshly prepared dishes from the upstairs Grill.

French- and British-inspired cuisine

Certain design elements have been retained in the restaurant in keeping with its history, including the familiar table layout. The menu will also continue to serve French- and British-inspired cuisine such as steak tartare, duck à l’orange and their signature beef wellington. The Savoy Grill is one of the most respected restaurants in the world, located within the eponymous hotel on The Strand in London. After opening in 1889, it has welcomed celebrities, politicians and royalty throughout its 125-year history. The restaurant gained its first Michelin star after Gordon Ramsay employed his former student, Marcus Wareing, and has since gone from strength to strength.

The current Executive Head Chef is Michael Turner, who formerly worked at restaurants across the Gordon Ramsay Group, including Bread Street Kitchen. Mains at The Savoy Grill start at £32, while the ‘Taste of Savoy’ menu is £110. They also offer a three-course lunch prix-fixe for just £59. The Chef’s Table, which includes courses such as Gigha halibut with champagne beurre blanc and Carlingford oysters, begins at £165 excluding wine.
