Falstaff Wine Guide Italy 2022/23

Montevertine was founded in 1967 by the industrialist Sergio Manetti. At the end of the 1970s, the name appeared in many trade journals as one of the best examples of Chianti Classico. The turning point came in 1977: Pergole Torte was born, the first example of Sangiovese in its purest form. Today, under the management of son Martino Manetti, the estate produces just three red wines on 18 hectares: Le Pergole Torte, 100 percent Sangiovese, Montevertine and Pian del Ciampolo, both 90 percent Sangiovese, 5 percent Canaiolo and 5 percent Colorino. Production is around 80,000 bottles and the winemaking is traditional.
