Red wine is René and Eva Pöckl's passion. Their aim is to continually improve quality and produce the best possible Pöckl wine. The vineyards are cultivated in a very natural way, the soil is permanently greened and the double vine system generates small-berried, concentrated grapes. These form the perfect basis for the unique, long-lasting Pöckl wines. The history of the Pöckl winery began back in 1910, when Albert Pöckl returned to Austria from the USA and laid the foundations for the agricultural business. Over the years, the Pöckl family first specialized in viticulture in general and then in red wine in particular. And their success has proved them right, as the area in and around Mönchhof provides the ideal breeding ground for Zweigelt and St. Laurent, as well as international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Two quotes from Josef and his son René Pöckl, who died far too young, sum up the philosophy of the winery: "A winegrower who does not know his soil, his vines and his climate conditions very well can never make a great wine." And: "What you fail to work on in the vineyard, you can't make up for in the cellar." Consumers can also taste this, as Pöckl wines show the regional typicity, the climate, the location and the care taken in the vineyard work and vinification. René Pöckl was already able to make a name for himself as a young man with his "Rêve de Jeunesse" and was successful several times at the Falstaff red wine awards. Alongside the multi-award-winning "Admiral", it is one of the winery's top wines. Another high-quality part of the range is the Pinot Noir, which repeatedly achieves a podium position in the Falstaff awards. It is vinified in small quantities and is one of the Pöckls' favorites due to its viticultural challenges. In addition, the winery constantly surprises with new wine concepts, which often demonstrate the good cooperation with its partners. The best-known niche wine is the "Mystique", which can certainly compete with the greats of the wine world. The "Mystique" is actually a research wine with which the winery explores the possibilities in the vineyard and during vinification. The findings are then incorporated into the production of the entire range. This is one of the reasons why the potential of the great wines from the Pöckl estate can hardly be surpassed and why they stand for the highest drinking pleasure when they have matured in the bottle. Everyday drinking pleasure is also catered for at Pöckl, with the "Solo Rosso", the Zweigelt Classique or - for more sophisticated tastes - the "Rosso e Nero" cuvée. In suitable years, excellent Prädikat wines are also produced. Thanks to its consistently outstanding performance over many years and its restless tinkering with even more elaborate wines, the winery is the proud holder of five stars and thus part of the top wine growing elite.
