The red wine Sammarco, vintage 2011 from the winery Castello dei Rampolla has been rated in 2016 by Othmar Kiem with 97 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the region Tuscany in Italy.
Rich, partially opaque ruby with purple glints. Opens with lightly smoky notes including some flint and notes of tar, then lots of dark currants with a subtle herbal savouriness. Blooms wonderfully on the palate, from juicy, vivid fruit - lots of currant and blackberry - then dense, finely meshed tannin, entwined with sweet fruit texture. Very long and persistent.
