Tasting Notes
The Niepoort 1931 Port (bottled 1938, decanted 1997) was the first real Garrafeira (not Colheita) of this house. Initially the wine remained in large wood for seven years and was then bottled in demijohns (8-11 liters), the bottling date (decanted) can be found on the label. Relatively light tawny with subtle brick-red nuances and orange and gold reflections. Fine nutty aromas, some honey and chocolate tones, ripe plum notes, dried fruit, subtle wood spice, very harmonious. Good freshness on the palate, balanced and elegant, good acidity, fine fruit in the finish, figs and roasted nuts in the aftertaste, overall rather feminine character, shows length, has obviously leased eternal youth. (12/2023, drink - 2050).
