The red wine Masseto Merlot Toscana IGT, vintage 2006 from the winery Masseto has been rated in 2018 by Peter Moser with 97 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Merlot from the region Tuscany in Italy.
Dark ruby with purple reflections, slightly lighter at the rim. Smoky with delicate savoury aromas underlying black cherry, sweet tobacco, ripe berry confit, gentle notes of dried fruit and a hint of fig – an altogether attractive bouquet. Powerful and fruity, opulent and substantial on the palate with a pleasant acid structure supported by pronounced tannins, it has a subtle, sweet chocolatey finish. The wine has definite ageing potential and should be allowed to undergo further maturation in bottle.
