Tasting Notes
The first year in which wine was exported to the USA. Obviously very ripe grapes. Ripe, fruity, but still fresh aromas today, stewed fig, strawberry, heart cherry. The palate structure also opens with ripe sweet fruit, lively acidity, the still grainy tannin gives tension and intensity, very good density, fine mineral background. A complex spiciness fans out on the finish, with mineral-salty, almost Madeira-like undertones. An impressively lively wine, which to call "sprightly" would be a complete misjudgement: this wine is still complete and completely at one with itself.
