Falstaff’s first Autumn/Christmas Auction – a success

Falstaff and Dorotheum Vienna repeated the success of previous wine auctions, achieving a 97 per cent sales quota.

From 11th to 25th November 2022, top-class wine, Champagne and spirits rarities once again came under the digital hammer at the Falstaff and Dorotheum Vienna Autumn/Christmas Auction. The magazine’s culinary lifestyle experts examined, evaluated and priced a total of 441 lots with 837 wines and a starting price of around 156,030 euros. After two weeks of auctions, Falstaff and Dorotheum, central Europe's leading auction house, presented the final, resounding result: 402,000 euros in gross sales and a sales quota of 97 per cent.

“We are proud that we were able to provide vinophile connoisseurs and gourmets with the highest-class as well as most comprehensive online wine auction in Austria with the Autumn/Christmas Auction,” said Falstaff editor Wolfgang M. Rosam. There was something for everyone at the auction. Among the items with the highest increases in terms of starting and estimated prices were three bottles of the Master Selection of the 2017 Sobre Todo Priorat DOCa by Philipp Schwander (100 Falstaff points), purchased at €3,200 each, as well as six bottles of the 2016 Sassicaia Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC from Tenuta San Guido (100 Parker points). Another highlight of the auction was three magnums of the 2011 Grüner Veltliner Ried Kellerberg Smaragd from the F. X. Pichler winery (97 Falstaff points) with a price of €950.

Falstaff and Dorotheum Vienna will continue with wine auctions as early as Easter 2023: From 29 March to 19 April, bids can be submitted for the sixth edition of the successful auction. Registration of Falstaff wines takes place from 19 February to 1 March 2023.
