"Vineyards are like children to me. And like children, I want to accompany them, support them and do my best for them. This is the only way they can unfold, develop their personality and show their full potential," is how Silvia Heinrich sees her work. She was born into viticulture and for the passionate winemaker, it is not an eight-hour day, but her life. Almost 80 percent of the vineyards are planted with Blaufränkisch, a variety that stands for the region, impresses with its independence and was described as "Austria's noble red wine variety" by the renowned "Wine and Spirits Magazine". The Heinrich family vinifies the typical Mittelburgenländer in seven different stages and from different vineyards. The varieties range from elegant and mineral to intense and powerful. The heart of the 38 hectares of vineyards is the Goldberg with eight hectares of Blaufränkisch, three of which have been in production since 1947, the year of the grandparents' wedding. The unmistakably authentic and typical Blaufränkisch wines from this top location are regularly among the best in the country. Silvia Heinrich's motto is: "Less is more." Few selected grape varieties, natural cultivation, manual harvesting, spontaneous fermentation: these are the ingredients from which uncompromising quality is created in the bottle - quality that is recognised, as the winery has already received several national and international awards with "terra o.", "elegy" or "Cupido".
The extraordinary quality of the wines is also confirmed by a steady stream of successes at home and abroad: in addition to the usual excellent Falstaff ratings, "Wine and Spirits Magazine" declared the Mittelburgenland DAC 2009 the winner with 94 points in a tasting of more than 200 Austrian wines in April 2013. Wine Enthusiast named the Blaufränkisch vom Weingebirge as the only Blaufränkisch in Austria among the "100 Best Buys"! In 2023, Silvia Heinrich won the "Falstaff Reserve Trophy" with her Blaufränkisch Cupido 2019, a particular highlight in her long list of successes. And ever since the Chinese president discovered the "Goldberg Reserve" during his visit to Austria, exports to China have been flourishing.
The new photovoltaic system is a further step towards renewable energy alongside a wood chip heating system, while also making a contribution to climate protection. In the vineyards, Weingut Heinrich is also committed to sustainable agriculture and has been avoiding insecticides and herbicides for years, using pheromones instead. The sensitive use of nature's resources and the strengthening of the vine's own defenses are top priorities.
