The red wine »Auftakt« Monarch, vintage 2021 from the winery Weingut Abthof – Martin Koch has been rated in 2024 by Ulrich Sautter with 91+ Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Monarch from the region Rhine Hesse in Germany.
2021 is likely to be the coolest of the last seven vintages. However, the Koch family has decided to let their monarch (please don't take this literally) hang a little longer. The result is a full-bodied red with power and polish. Very ripe black cherry, blackberry, juicy and lush in appearance at the expense of refinement, but completely convincing in its style.
