"et cetera" in Zurich-Wiedikon: a new restaurant for the whole day

With "et cetera", Aurelia Stirnimann and Lea Hürlimann have opened a restaurant in Zurich-Wiedikon that functions from breakfast to dinner. Sourdough bread, Scandinavian influences and a noticeably personal hospitality characterize the local restaurant on Bertastrasse.

Since mid-April, Zurich-Wiedikon has had a new restaurant, "et cetera", at Bertastrasse 76, which fills a gap. It is a place for the whole day: from breakfast and coffee to lunch, aperitifs and dinner with friends or family. "We invite you to spend the day with us," says Lea Hürlimann, who opened the restaurant together with Aurelia Stirnimann.

There for guests all day long

The two know each other from scouting and have both worked in the catering industry for years. Most recently at the "Casa Alpina Belvedere" on Alp Grüm in Puschlav. As restaurateurs, they knew exactly what was missing in their environment. "We are out and about at other times. We didn't have the offer we would have liked," explains Hürlimann. Specifically, they wanted a place where they could have breakfast and coffee in the morning, lunch at lunchtime, "käffele" or "aperöle" in the afternoon and eat in the evening. "If you meet for an aperitif and then get hungry, the snacks on offer are often not enough. And having to change restaurants is a hassle," says Hürlimann.

Sourdough bread as the main actor

Maria Horowska, an experienced chef from the Zurich restaurant scene, is at the stove and in the bakery. The menu at "et cetera" is consistently built around bread - and only sourdough bread at that. "We all eat bread every day, but we take it for granted," says Hürlimann. The team wants to focus on the product, get to know the producers and tell their stories.

In the morning, for example, there is sourdough plait with caponata and stracciatella, at lunchtime a lunch menu and in the afternoon pastries and bread with whipped butter. Sourdough bread is also the star of the menu in the evening. The menu is simple, uncomplicated, seasonal and regional. If you're hungry, you can have the dishes in courses or all at once in the middle of the table. "We are very flexible," says Hürlimann.

A name that allows for many things

The name "et cetera " - Latin for "and so on " - has accompanied the founders for over a year. It stands for openness. "We have a broad interest and enjoy working with everything that has to do with sensor technology. Any other name would have pushed us too much in one direction," explains Hürlimann. "Et cetera" leaves room - for what is now and for what is yet to come. At the same time, the name has something familiar about it for the founders. "'Et cetera' is only said when you understand each other. You don't have to explain yourself. The other person knows what is meant."

The furnishings are inspired by the Scandinavian north, where the founders themselves like to spend time. In summer, there is also a cozy terrace under a wisteria. The "et cetera" is a cozy, inviting place where people like to stay.
